Plain organic unprocessed (virgin) coconut oil rubbed into the skin can be enough for many people. Rub into the skin after a shower while the skin is still moist.
Also just before bedtime, for those REALLY dry skin people who need more than plain coconut oil try:
- 1/4 cp grated beeswax
- 1/3 cp coconut oil
- 1/4 cp sweet almond oil
- 2/3 cp shea butter (a 5.3 oz tub)
- 30 drops lavender essential oil
Melt in a double boiler over medium heat (except essential oil). Stir constantly until no solid particles are left. Take off heat and add in essential oil and stir until completely dissolved. Let mix cool at room temp. Whip in a blender for 5 minutes until it looks like runny whipped cream. Store in fridge until chills and hardens, ~3 hrs. Keep a little at room temp to use and store the rest in the fridge in a mason jar.
The essential oil is optional. Lavender is a healing oil. If you don’t want to use essential oil but still want some healing properties, try using cocoa butter instead of shea butter. Cocoa butter has some healing properties but does not mix well with essential oils because cocoa butter has a much stronger scent than shea butter.
